The end of this blog.

Well since I have moved to MN the library, which is my only access to the internet, bans Xanga. So this blog shall no longer house the thoughts of Brandon. I have moved to a new internet space for any that are interested. You can post on my blog there if your inclined and if you want to read it to keep up with my daily happenings in MN then thats the best route. That or Facebook.

So, so long Xanga, I have enjoyed you.

MN day 1

Well I arrived, and I got moved in. I think I may be living without internet for quite a while though, so this may not be a reliable method of communication. I have found the public library however and when possible I'll utilize their facilities as well as the schools computer lab. For now though I am off to fill out job applications, figure out student loan information, and cross my fingers that I come up with 15,000 before August 1st.

No books this time I'm afraid, lol been a bit busy. But perhaps soon I'll pick up my next novel in the chain of reading.

Angels and Demons

Good morning and Good bye to Arkansas. This will be my last post from the natural state for a while. And as it worked out, lol I finished a book last night. This book by Dan Brown, author of The Da Vinci Code, was probably better then the book that brought the guy so much fame. But for me The Da Vinci Code will always have come first and have more meaning because I read it and then actually travelled to one of the places in the book. The two novels by Mr. Brown are suprisingly similar. Both invovle the same main character, Robert Langdon, and then both invovle some sort of religious secret society, and some forlorn women that needs help because her father figure has been murdered bu said secret society, also thrown into the mix is a servant of the society that is half crazed with devotion and has a wierd vice that is portrayed has his villianry. I am not saying that the plot doesn't work, I'm just thinking that if all Mr. Browns books are this way then its a bit redundent. That said I'd still like to thank all the people that recommend I read this book because I did enjoy it immensely.

But in other non book related news, as I embark on my journey later this morning I'd just like to say good bye, good luck, and good hunting. I'll be continuing to brodcast my random thoughts on books and life from Minnesota, but I don't know how long it will take me to get the internet in my new apartment. So if you need me call me, and once I get jacked back into the world wide web I'll be sure and give everyone an update about how those crazy northerners are influencing me. For now though its off to breakfast and then the road.

And at this time I am reminded of a song by Willie Nelson:
Good mornin, America
How are ya?....

Humanity and Dogs

I am in the process of reading one of those historical fiction Indian novels I mentioned in a previous post. I really like the story so far, but my only complaint is that the main character seems to be relied upon a bit too heavily. I mean obviously he is the main character, but it is just not possible for the good guy to always in every minor circumstance come out ahead. My complaint isn't a major thing, but it is something that would make the books seems a little more realistic.

One thing that the novel has got me to think about though is the way that humanity treats nature. Most of my family claims to be Indian in some percentage of the gene pool, and for all I know it could be true. ( I think mainly the German and the Scottish genes came through in me, but who knows for sure right??) At any rate one thing that I do claim to have garnished either from my Indian heritage or just from my natural tendency as a human being is the ability to get along well with any dog I have met or come across. There have been times when I was little that I would walk up and be petting some dog, and the owner/person in charge would be afraid for me. They would claim that the dog didn't like people or kids, or that it was just plain mean. Now some of you know about my recent attempt at keeping a canine and how Jake ended his days because of his mean streak. Now the dog was never mean to me or my parents, but just about everyone else had to keep their distance or Jake would not react kindly. Poor Jake was put to rest because we couldn't keep a dog that was inclined to be vicious to all the random passerbyers that we have.  This I understand and even though I don't like it I can agree with it.

However, yesterday my dad got up and was headed to his truck to go to work and he heard a little bark. He went around the side of the house and lo and be hold some one had left two puppies on our driveway. Now my parents aren't for having another dog because they both work all day and the poor animals get pretty lonely. Plus since I am not around much they don't really get trained or groomed or picked for ticks or things like that, so they recommended that we just leave the pups alone and let them wander off or survive on their own.

Now I was strong, and I lasted the whole of yesterday. But this morning I went out to do some chores and plant a tree for mom and I looked off over the hill and the pups were in the road. They didn't get run over, but the passing cars were honking and swerving and I just couldn't stand there and watch. So off I went and I called and I hollered and I spoke my special brand of puppy talk. Finally the little tyrants came a runnin and around they went. Finally they got close enough for me to pet them and now they are lounging comfortably on our porch. I don't know what type of dogs they are, could be a mix of pincher/rottwieler/and setter or who knows what all. But they are two female pups, which explains why they were dropped off.

I rambled through that story for a purpose, lol and believe it or not here it is. I think that maybe I missed a calling of mine. I always played with the idea of being some sort of animal doctor. I mean animals don't complain, there easy to please, and they give unwavering affection. So perhaps at some later date, when I have house with plenty of land, I'll develop a dog sanctuary where strays and outcasts can come and get taken care of and then maybe I can find homes for the canine outcasts that humanity has left at my door step.

Bess's Gift

So as I already alluded too, Bess and I had the same idea for graduation gifts. She got me a book, which she thought I should read. I did the same thing for her (as well as everyone else). I have finished Little Men, which Bess says is her favorite book of all time. I am glad I read the novel. It is considered a classic for most young readers, and although I didn't get around to reading it till I was a young adult it was still pretty good. My favorite character would have to be Dan, but Nat would be a close second. If you could combine the two boys together then I think you might have me, or a least a version of me.

I always find it hard to label myself as a specific type of "boy" but this book had a pretty good variety of the spectrum of boyness. My only complaint is that I probably should have read Little Women first, lol because the novel alluded to things that happened in the first book, and I was a little lost. But it wasn't a big thing and I still enjoyed the read.

Although this may seem presumptious, I think I have learned more about Bess by reading the book that she deems her favorite. I can' t be entirely sure, but after having known her for so long and then reading this novel I can draw parallels between her and the book. I don't know that I could confine her to one of the characters in paticular but I can definetly see how the book might have influenced her outlook on life and transformed her into the kind hearted person that she is, (by the way bud was Demi's sister your favorite character?) So my thinking is that if I were to read a person's favorite book then I might know that person better because of it.

Aside from finishing the book, I also did some more pre-minnesota errands today. I went to the used book store and stocked up on books (I think I have about 30 to take with me) and I went to the suprlus Little Debbie store and stocked up on snacking things. So I can mark those two things off of my list for the week. Now I believe I am off to start a new series about american indians that were apparently my ancestors?? in some fashion. The books are historical fiction, but my dad's dad really enjoyed reading them because he had heard of some of the characters during his childhood. So into the past of the Ellis name I shall venture in search of a new story.
